Evergreen Cemetary

Evergreen Cemetery sits northeast of Colville on Aladdin Road, in the pine-and-foothill landscape of Stevens County. Established in 1868, it is one of the oldest burial grounds in the Colville Valley — a pioneer cemetery that holds homesteaders and veterans from the Indian Wars through Korea. PLACE Landscape Architecture was retained to master-plan a new addition that extends the cemetery’s capacity without erasing the character of the historic grounds.

The addition is organized around two places families actually use: a columbarium for above-ground inurnment, and a pavilion where people can sit with those at rest. The plan treats those elements as one commemorative room — walks, planting, and gathering space sized for a graveside visit, not a civic plaza — so the new work reads as part of the cemetery rather than a separate campus.
